We have outlived out our bodies to produce hormones throughout our lives. With science backing hormonal replacement therapy, we can help the body function like it should and did at a younger age. We can help give you back your vitality!

How Does Hormone Replacement Therapy Work?

Slimming Solutions offers hormone replacement therapy for both men and women. During menopause, a woman’s level of the female sex hormone estrogen drops, and the effects can be hair growth on the face, enlargement of the waistline, weight gain, skin laxity, and wrinkles. Men, from middle age and onward, experience gradually declining levels of testosterone. This leads to slight weight gain, especially around the gut, and decreased muscle mass.

Over-the-counter hormones are not regulated or prescribed by a medical professional and usually, there are no menopause symptoms resolved by taking them. Progesterone 50mg or less per unit dose are available without a prescription. It’s recommended that you receive hormones directly from a hormone specialist like the team at Slimming Solutions.

We only offer bioidentical hormones. Low hormones can affect almost every aspect of a person’s life. Testosterone, progesterone, and estrogen are usually made out of soy and yams. There are no harmful chemicals in hormone pellets, unlike some other options.

A typical treatment will work as follows:

First Appointment: Labs are drawn to check for deficiency along with a full thyroid panel and many other tests that could be causing weight gain or deficiencies ($100 lab fee and insurance pays for labs to be completed*).  Physical with a medical provider will be completed before insertion of a hormone pellet.

Second Appointment: The following appointment is for the insertion of a pellet (or pellets if more than one is needed). Pellets are the size of a tick tack and are inserted just below the skin. The area is numbed before the procedure. After the procedure there is no downtime, clients go back to their normal activities.

Am I a Good Candidate for Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Any man or woman who has a shortage of hormones may be a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy. Stress, exercise, diet, high estrogen in men, and low thyroid levels can cause low hormone numbers.

The following symptoms may be a sign of low hormones:

Men: Many men suffer from impotence and low libido due to declining testosterone. If you are overweight, your estrogen could be too high and this can affect libido, muscle mass but also it can cause weight gain around the middle. The deficiency in men is called andropause. Some men also may have too much estrogen, which usually encompasses more abdominal fat. Receiving an estrogen blocker during pellet insertion will help lower estrogen levels.

Women: Women can experience any of the following symptoms because of low hormones, perimenopause, or menopause: fatigue, irritability, agitation, acne, anxiety, difficulty with sleep, mood, decreased memory, mental fog,  depression, hot flashes, and/night sweats, decreased focus, decreased bone density, decrease in muscle tone and lower ability to exercise, bladder leakage, painful intercourse, vaginal dryness are all causes of low sex hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone.

Do I Need to do Anything in Preparation for My Treatment?

It’s important you receive lab tests* prior to receiving hormone replacement therapy to ensure you receive the proper hormones in the proper amount due to many factors that can influence health such as a thyroid panel. Labs may be periodically required during your treatment; this is up to the discretion of the medical provider. Usually, no more than two labs are required.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

The insertion of the hormone pellet is relatively quick. You are numbed before insertion and are numb for several hours afterward. The pellets are the size of a tic-tac and are inserted in fat either in the hip or love handle. The insertion point is very small and minimal discomfort afterward.

Your body gradually circulates the hormones throughout your body and they dissolve naturally. Testosterone or estrogen shots will give you a huge dose all at once, unlike pellets that give a steady even dosage, and generally, no side effects are seen.

What Results Will I See?*

Hormone replacement therapy help with hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, forgetfulness, weight gain, vaginal dryness, low libido, mood swings, feeling unlike yourself, fluid retention, and sleep disturbances, just to name a few. Men generally see improvement of symptoms such as loss of muscle mass, loss of body hair, impotence, low libido, mood, and fatigue.

It can also help you lose weight. If your body is not functioning to optimal levels it can be difficult to lose weight. Testosterone helps build back muscle and bone due to aging. Having too much estrogen can cause weight gain, we always check your hormone levels before any type of hormone treatment.

While testosterone can deepen your voice and increase your facial hair, deepening of the voice is rare and generally due to too high of a dosage. Coarse facial hair can happen but 85% of women over the age of 35 have this problem. Too high of a dose of testosterone can cause facial hair, we opt to keep you at levels that are optimal. We also have programs for laser hair removal.

Hormone pellets in women generally last 3 months and men up to 4 months. Rechecking labs after insertion is 4 weeks for women and 6 weeks for men.

Is There Any Downtime?*

There can be side effects associated with hormone replacement therapy. Testosterone injections can cause higher levels of bad cholesterol, LDL. However, these are more common in the form of anabolic steroids, which can be misused by other offices that do not follow guidelines or check labs.

Oral estrogens and progestins significantly increase the risk of blood clots and strokes. Testosterone implants, pellets, do not increase blood clots or strokes.

Patients who receive hormone replacement therapy for improvement in libido may be interested in sexual health treatments, such as the O-Shot, P-Shot, or shockwave ED treatment

*We have wholesale pricing on labs, if you have no insurance please inform our office staff and we can help with reducing costs on labs.  Insurance policies vary on reimbursements, deductibles, and copays.
