What are Spider Veins?
Spider veins can occur for many different reasons, including:
- Standing for long periods of time
- Obesity
- Abdominal pressure
- Hormonal changes
- A history of blood clots
These factors can cause blood to back up in the veins, making them stretch and twist. This causes varicose veins and spider veins, which often occur together. Pressure forces blood to pool in the veins of the legs, causing them to become oversized, visible, and contorted.
How does Spider Vein Treatment Work?
At Slimming Solutions Med Spa, we use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat spider veins successfully. IPL works by using high-intensity pulses of light. The color of the spider veins causes them to absorb the light energy as heat, damaging the vein walls. The damaged vein will collapse, and the body’s natural process will clear it away within a few weeks.
What Is IPL Treatment for Spider Veins Like?
You will not require any sedation or numbing during this procedure. People often compare the feeling of the pulse to being snapped with a rubber band. The procedure can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of veins treated.
You will often require several treatments, each spaced four to six weeks apart. Each treatment causes more scarring in the targeted veins, closing them more and more until they collapse. Blood will redirect through other vessels, and the body will absorb the damaged veins.
